Outdoors
In the Loop
There’s no better place than Fairfield to get out for a hike or a leisurely bike ride around town. The Fairfield Loop Trail passes through the prairies, woodlands, wetlands, old railroad corridors, over major bridges, and much more. The highlight of outdoor recreation in Fairfield, this 16-mile paved path built in 2009 encircles the city and serves as a connector between Fairfield and other outdoor destinations around Jefferson County.

Additionally, Jefferson County is home to 12 public parks and recreation areas consisting of more than 1,300 acres. Approximately seven miles of hiking and biking trails have been established in Jefferson County Park. The trails take you through a diversity of landscapes including timber, pine tree plantings, meadows, and re-established prairie. Our recreational trails system offers the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors with 33 miles of trails connecting parks, lakes, and a state preserve.
Up for a little fishing or canoeing? Both the Cedar Creek Water Trail and the Skunk River Water Trail run through the area. Navigate by motorboat, canoe, or kayak as you discover the natural beauty of the Jefferson County waterways. Numerous parks in the area offer fishing as well.
Biking
Our favorite way to explore Fairfield is on two wheels. From weekly group rides to solitary pedals, cyclists of all experience levels can venture out onto trails or try a more challenging gravel ride. Join the local cycling group for updated weekly rides. Many of the group rides lead to Fishback & Stephenson Cider House for dinner, drinks, or Sunday morning brunch. So, grab your helmet, explore some wilderness, stop for a wine or cider break, and get pedaling!
