About Our Vibe
Unique Fairfield; All About Embracing the Difference
When Mother Earth News writer Lynn Byczynski dubbed Fairfield, Iowa, one of “12 Great Places You’ve Never Heard Of” in the August 2006 issue, she hit the nail right on the head. For a town of 10,000 smack dab in the middle of Jefferson County, we’ve got quite a lot going on!
Fairfield is a thriving arts community more or less in the middle of cornfields. For a small town, we're busting at the seams with artists of all kinds: painters, sculptors, musicians, dancers poets... There's a freeing attitude that arts belongs to everyone, and everyone can be an artist.
Fairfield is a unique place where the Iowan approach to life is spiced up with diverse culture, an eclectic scene of entertainment, shops, and eateries. Visit for a day, a weekend or more. Have lunch at one of our bistros, visit with local artists during 1st Fridays, bike through wetlands and prairies along the Fairfield Loop Trail, experience the magic of a Broadway inspired show at the Sondheim Center and discover what makes Fairfield unique.
